The Biltmore - New York City, New York
The Biltmore Hotel opened on New Years Day 1913. It was one of three palatial hotels built as part of the Terminal City development. The other two, the Roosevelt Hotel and the Commodore Hotel (now the Grand Hyatt New York) are still operating. The Biltmore ceased operation in August 1981 and was gutted by its then owner. The demolition took place despite the building's status and protests by preservationists. The hotel was stripped down to its steel structural skeleton and rebuilt as the Bank of America Plaza. The building today is known simply by its address, 335 Madison Avenue.
